Recent Work: Modern Flapper

Here's a look I styled for Beaute Social with Dollface by Jules and Dylan Wilson Photography. We had so much fun doing a modern update on a 1920s flapper look and our model Lucia totally worked it!  P.S.- The feather toque hat was an estate sale find for a steal!  :)

Miss Havisham

Hi Guys!
This is a photo I entered for a vintage fashion photo shoot contest by Still The Lovely.  I just found out about this contest and its based on # likes so I'm trying my best anyways :) Read on for my inspiration and how to vote...

I'm wearing an Edwardian tea gown that has been in my family. My mother actually wore it when she got married. I was inspired by the decaying look of this house facade down the street from me in Savannah and I wanted to combine it with something ethereal and white. Sort of a Miss Havisham inspiration if you will! The hat is thrifted and I pinned ivory hydrangeas on it that I already had as part of a floral arrangement.

Photo by my husband- Dylan Wilson :)

To vote for me- click HERE to go to my entry on the contest page-  and just click LIKE. And check out the other vintage fashion photo entries while you're there!

I'll share more photos from this shoot with you guys later!

A Midnight Beauty

Just wanted to share a favorite new find.... a vintage 1950s dusting powder box of the fragrance Midnight by Tussy! I spotted this whilst digging around at my favorite local antique spot- Wright Square Antique Mall. I adored the faded coloring and beautiful writing, plus it was an absolute steal so it went home with me...

Here's what it reads:

A fragrance can be as potent as a come-hither smile. And Midnight by Tussy is a scent that appeals to a gentleman's senses! This fabulous fragrance scents a whole series of lovely Tussy beauty aids from perfume to lipstick to dusting powder. Try them and see if they don't make you feel romantic... and make men feel romantic towards you."

Do you have any vintage beauty products or packaging? I'd love to hear about them!

Time Traveling & Print-Mixing

Here's an entirely thrifted vintage-inspired outfit I put together for some fun shots with this neighboring 1965 Ford Galaxie! I'm a big fan of mixing prints and colors so this was fun. Notice the size of the prints are different (larger print on dress versus smaller print on coat) so it works well together and doesn't conflict.

Empress of Fashion

I had a phone disaster yesterday (dropped in toliet!) and I had tons of photos that may be lost! So for now, here are some iphone shots that I found on my husbands phone. You may recognize the dress and shawl from other photos- this is another look I did for a friend's birthday dinner out at my favorite local Thai restaurant- Saigon! The only difference is the accessories and hair. I like that this look has a bit of a Roman empress feel to it. (I would have worn gold jeweled sandals if only I had them- still trying to find the perfect pair I can afford or may do a gold leaf DIY)!

Outfit Post: Dinner Party

The husband and I recently attended a dinner party for South magazine out at a local Indian restaurant- Pakwan (excellent food!). To get into the spirit of things, I dressed accordingly, with a little help from my thrifted sheer tunic. This piece has a special memory attached to it... I was late to a date with my husband when we first met because I was thrifting and couldn't pass this little gem up!

Uploading these pictures reminds me that I read the other day in my latest issue of Marie Claire that Indian-inspired fashion is a current trend of the moment. Think gilded embellishments, black and gold color combos, and tunic dresses layered over leggings or trousers. To really go all out, you can add much more embellishment than I did here (and trust me I will!) Use sheer fabrics or saris, load on the embroidered and jeweled details (headwear, sandals, clothing), and pile on bold jewelry of gems or gold via ornate necklaces, earrings, and bangles/arm cuffs!

P.S. That face above is the one I like to do for my husband to play around :)

Belt- borrowed from another dress
Clutch- vintage via yard sale
Leggings- H&M

Retro Toys!

One of my favorite local places to stop in every now and then is Planet Fun. It's a little store selling everything from Supermario Nintendo games to comic books and cabbage patch sheets! Here are my current favorites that remind me of yesteryear (or growing up in the 80s/90s)...

Yes these are Barbie poodles that of course, come in their own carrying purse!

Anyone remember Goosebumps?

The husband and I rented an episode at our local library last year and it was this same title- Night of the Living Dummy. It wasn't exactly how I remembered it, but it was still a bit scary and definitely fun to see the kids 90s fashions!

I'm still in awe over my little ponies! Oh the pastel candy colors...the glitter....the hair...and those lashes!!!

Upon searching my little ponies online (because I just had to), I came across something pretty interesting...

Someone had modernized this beauty by taking the butt stamp they already had to a full on tattoo, complete with custom headpiece! (Image source here).

And just when did they go from bright- eyed to sultry-eyed??? I liken this transformation to the Bratz fashion dolls glitzified, sexified, lush-lipped reincarnation of classic Barbie.

Now for more pony highlights:
Remember any of these?

  • Twinkle-Eyed Ponies (small rhinestones in their eyes)
  • Twice-as-Fancy Ponies (patterns covering most of their body)
  • Brush 'n Grow Ponies (longer than usual mane and tail that's stored inside the body). Huh???

Popples...what a cool concept with the thing folding up into itself. What kind of animal is it supposed to be anyway?? I guess just a "Popple". And who can forget those creepy cute trolls!

Planet Fun is located at 23 E. Broughton St. downtown in Savannah, GA....and it's a must-see in my book!

What were some of your favorite toys or books growing up?
