The Beales of Mobile: Part II

Hi Guys,

Sorry posting has been so scant lately! I have been (and will be) extremely busy with work projects until the end of the year so there will likely be minimal posts until I get a moment to breathe. For now, here are some fun photo mementos from my trip to Mobile and visit with my friend Mary at her shop Mary Parker Antiques. Fun, feathery hats, furs, and even an old newspaper from 1918...

Yard Sale Fashion Finds!

I went yard-saling yesterday in a serious way (aren't most yard-salers pretty serious about it??) My dad went along with me- we started at 7:45 am and didn't stop until he made me!!! How considerate of me! Here's what I got...

  • The softest 3 piece vintage pj set- $1 (the top may become my new favorite shirt!)
  • Parasol (small torn slit but do I care for 25 cents??)
  • Vintage seafoam nightie - 50 cents
  • Lace doily etched dish -free gift with purchase (love this for organizing toiletries on bathroom sink)
  • White satiny fabric I plan to drape as a skirt and puddle to the floor 30s style- 50 cents
  • Petticoat -$4
  • Asymmetrical lacy valence I will likely wear as a sarong- 25 cents
  • Sweet pink & blue vintage bed jackets- $1 each
  • Feather toque hat (so 1910s)- $10 splurge
  • Flapper style dress- $2
  • Blue straw hat with upturned brim- $1
So, I think I just found a reason to wake up early on Saturdays. And thats saying a lot if you know me!

Eastern Exotica

Had to share these awesome middle eastern hats I picked up for $5 each at the SCAD international festival recently.....

I can't wait to use these in a photo shoot and share pics with you guys! I've already got one look in mind involving a red and black beaded 80s jacket with huge shoulder pads and this red fez with tassel. Stay tuned!

Thrifted Thursdays

Recent finds from thrifting excursions....

Love the pretty blue ribbon on this! I will keep it just like it is!
(By the way that's our patio in the background!)

I couldn't resist this cute little silver purse with elephant closure.... perfect for strapping on and hitting the cobblestone in Savannah!

I love the the ribbed silver fabric... reminds me of all the adorable vintage dress sandals I seem to always see when thrifting that are never my size like these!!!!

Surrealist street fashion

Check out this very creative take on the traditional Easter hat I spied yesterday whilst out and about in  Savannah.....

Does he realize he's totally channeling Schiaparelli??

Schiaparelli's infamous "Shoe Hat" of 1937- a result of her collaboration with Surrealist artist Salvador Dali.

Modern Easter Bonnet

Colored hair by Orlando Pita for T Magazine.
I love how the styling keeps the look monochromatic and makes it look actually wearable! For the hair, more pastel than bright is part of the trick. Read about how he did it here.

Seem a little too bold? Love this DIY tutorial for doing just the tips. Another alternative that requires less of a commitment is to do this on extensions and clip them in.

Here are some other modern twists on the Easter hat I am loving. The placement of the flowers in both of these looks give it a high fashion feel. (Images via Fashion Indie.com)

Would you wear any of these looks?
